Global Talent Independent (GTI) Visa

The Global Talent Independent (GTI) Visa Program is designed to attract highly talented individuals, with entrepreneurial ideas and cutting-edge skills within target industry sectors, who can contribute to Australia’s economy by driving innovation and supporting the creation of local jobs.

Age Limit (years)

To apply for this visa you must be between 18 and 55 years old.

If you are under 18 years old or you are aged 55 years or older when you apply, you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.

Processing time for EOI Stage

  • 75% of applications: 30 days
  • 90% of applications: 60 days

Key Highlights

Target sectors

You must be highly skilled in one of the 10 target sectors and also be able to attract a salary of AUD 162,000 that meets the high income threshold.

    • Circular economy;
    • Digitech;
    • Infrastructure and tourism;
    • Financial services and FinTech;
    • Education.

Global Talent

  • You must prove that you are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements
  • You must still be prominent in your field of expertise
  • You must provide evidence that your would be an asset to Australia, in your area of expertise
  • You must either already have an employment or have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in your field
  • A recognised organisation or individual in Australia working in the same field as you, must endorse you as global talent.
  • You must show an exceptional track record of professional achievement. This may include senior roles, patents, professional awards and international publications and memberships.
  • Even Masters and Phd students with GPA of over 80 can be eligible for this visa.

High income threshold

  • You should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high income threshold of AUD162,000.
  • Immigration will assess this by considering:
    • current salary shown through payslips or a contract, or
    • future job offers outlining remuneration, or
    • recent PhD or Masters graduates in the target sectors

Distinguished Talent Stream

The Distinguished Talent stream of the global Talent visa is a permanent visa for people who have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in an eligible field such as a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research.

From AUD 4,180.

If you are assessed as not having functional English then you need to pay a 2nd instalment of   $4,890 otherwise the 2nd instalment is NIL.

There is also a fee for each family member who applies for the visa with you.

Age Limit (years)

To apply for this visa you must be between 18 and 55 years old.

If you are under 18 years old or you are aged 55 years or older when you apply, you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.

Key Highlights
  • For the Distinguished Talent Stream you can be in or outside Australia when you apply and when this visa is decided.
  • For distinguished talent stream you must :
    • have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in one of the following:
      • a profession;
      • a sport;
      • the arts;
      • academia and research; and
    • be still prominent in your area in the past 2 years
    • show that you would be an asset to the Australian community
    • have no difficulty getting employment, or in becoming established independently in your field in Australia
    • be between 18 and 55 years old when you apply otherwise you will need to provide evidence of exceptional benefit to the Australian community
    • meet health and character requirements
    • meet special return criteria
    • not have any outstanding debt to the Australian government
    • be nominated using form 1000 by one of the following:
      • an Australian peak body or organisation
      • an Australian citizen
      • an Australian permanent resident, or
      • an eligible New Zealand citizen
  • The nominating person or organization must also:
    • have a national reputation in your field
    • be highly regarded throughout Australia – a reputation in one state or region would not be considered ‘national’
